For English 1, the very first assignment that I have received is essay writing. The learning outcomes of this assignment are to write a well-developed and well-organised five-paragraph expository and argumentative essay as well as to apply correct APA style referencing techniques.

During the first few lessons, Ms Thivilojana taught us about prewriting. There are several ways to do prewriting. For instance, freewriting, questioning, making a list, clustering and preparing a scratch outline. Besides prewriting, Miss Thivilojana also taught us about transitional words. Transitional words are used in essays so that readers could get the connections between one idea to another idea of in one essay easily.

For my essay writing assignment, I have chosen to write a compare or contrast essay about any two cities in my country that I think tourist should visit.

Upon completing this assignment, I have learnt to write a basic five-paragraph essay which includes an introduction, a thesis statement topic sentences and specific details. I have also learnt the correct way to apply APA referencing techniques.

Oral Presentation

The second assignment that I was given for my English 1 class is an oral presentation assignment. The learning outcomes of this assignment are ability to deliver an effective presentation by applying different elements of an effective speaker.
For this assignment, I teamed up with four of my classmates, Vicky Lee, Ricky Wong, Prashani and Teoh Hui Yu. We were given a task to present about one of the ancient or modern wonders of the world. My group have chosen Taj Mahal. We were required to produce a 25 to 30 minutes video about the structures, layout, types of materials used and types of ornamentation used for the modern or ancient wonder that we have chosen.
All of us were slightly camera-shy to start off with. However, after some time we calmed our nerves and the video shooting process went on smoothly.
Upon completing this assignment, I have learnt that body language is very important when it comes to presentation. During a presentation, we should make eye contact with the audience from time to time.
The following is the link to my group's oral presentation on Taj Mahal. Enjoy! :)
